Welcome to Not Too Much Now, a monthly event where we gather to lovingly roast, challenge, and unpack the beauty standards that shape Black womanhood - with a mocktail in one hand and a PowerPoint remote in the other.
Each month, we’ll be diving headfirst into one beauty topic. Expect heated opinions, hilarious (and slightly chaotic) meme-filled presentations, and the kind of community energy that only a good yap sesh can bring.
This Month's Topic:
Was America’s Next Top Model more impactful than harmful for Black women seeking representation in the media?
For many Black women, America’s Next Top Model was one of the first times we saw ourselves reflected in mainstream fashion and beauty spaces. It offered visibility, opportunity, and moments of representation that felt rare at the time.
But as more stories and experiences from former contestants continue to surface, questions have emerged about the cost of that visibility. From beauty standards and editing to treatment behind the scenes, the show’s legacy is now being re-examined.
Did ANTM play a meaningful role in expanding representation and possibility for Black women, or did it reinforce harmful dynamics under the guise of inclusion?
Let’s talk about it 👀📺
Who It’s For:
