Welcome to Not Too Much Now, a monthly event where we gather to lovingly roast, challenge, and unpack the beauty standards that shape Black womanhood - with a mocktail in one hand and a PowerPoint remote in the other.
Each month, we’ll be diving headfirst into one beauty topic. Expect heated opinions, hilarious (and slightly chaotic) meme-filled presentations, and the kind of community energy that only a good yap sesh can bring.
We’re not here to solve everything - we’re here to laugh, reflect, and respectfully (!) debate beauty culture today.
This month's question:
Are Black beauty products and services fairly priced - or are we being overcharged for access to ourselves?
From hair to skincare to makeup, the cost of Black beauty has changed over time, for lots of different reasons. Some see higher prices as a fair reflection of skill, labour and quality. Others feel the cost can make certain products and services less accessible to the communities they’re meant to serve.
Is this shift simply the reality of the industry today, or is it creating new challenges for Black consumers?
Let’s talk about it 👀
How It Works:
We kick off each session with a few house rules to keep things fun, respectful, and safe for everyone.
Then our speakers take the floor, one 'for', one 'against', with audience polls, group discussions and plenty of back-and-forth.

What to Expect:
- A set debate topic (announced in advance!)
- Bold, funny, culturally-rich presentations by community members
- Real talk, audience participation, and a few “wait… is she wrong tho?” moments
- Vibes and good company - because we’re debating, not arguing
Who It’s For:
This is a space created by and for Black women aged 21+ who love beauty, culture, and a bit of friendly discourse. Whether you want to take the mic or just enjoy the ride, you’re welcome.
Now babes... Let’s talk beauty!
