Welcome to Not Too Much Now, a monthly event where we gather to lovingly roast, challenge, and unpack the beauty standards that shape Black womanhood - with a mocktail in one hand and a PowerPoint remote in the other.
Each month, we’ll be diving headfirst into one beauty topic. Expect heated opinions, hilarious (and slightly chaotic) meme-filled presentations, and the kind of community energy that only a good yap sesh can bring.
We’re not here to solve everything - we’re here to laugh, reflect, and respectfully (!) debate beauty culture today.
This month's question:
Does the celebration of curvy body types empower Black women and expand representation - or create new pressures to alter our bodies in unhealthy ways?
The conversation around body image is complex. Curves are celebrated across media, fashion, and culture - but questions remain. Does this visibility truly empower Black women and broaden representation, or does it reinforce narrow ideals and push us towards extremes?
And with Black women’s bodies historically scrutinised and policed, is this shift a step forward - or does it bring new challenges, including pressures to turn to fillers, implants, or weight-loss drugs in order to fit the mould?

How It Works:
We kick off each session with a few house rules to keep things fun, respectful, and safe for everyone.
Then our speakers take the floor, one 'for', one 'against', with audience polls, group discussions and plenty of back-and-forth.
